Unitree As2

About this model

The Unitree As2 is the lighter industrial quadruped, an open platform for rapid development. It measures 820 × 440 × 570 mm standing and 720 × 550 × 220 mm prone; about 35 kg without battery, roughly 42 kg with it. The body is aluminium alloy and high-strength engineering plastic.

Twelve joint motors with improved response and cooling deliver about 180 N·m; motion spans −58° to 58° at the body, −134° to 225° at the thigh, −158° to −30° at the shank. It walks 0-3.7 m/s (up to ~5 m/s), takes 30 cm steps and ~45° slopes, and climbs onto a 0.5-1 m ledge.

Standing it bears about 100 kg; walking, roughly 25 kg (up to 35 kg in ideal conditions). The dual 2 × 9000 mAh battery (907 Wh) at 50.4 V hot-swaps: over 5 hours and 20 km unloaded, about 3 hours and 12.5 km with 25 kg. Front and rear industrial LiDARs, an HD camera and a front light; the shell is IP56, the core IP67.

Interfaces: 4× USB 3.0 Type-C, gigabit Ethernet, 2× RS485, 12/24 V outputs. The films and photographs are the manufacturer's own.

The As2 climbs large stone blocks in a quarry

Climbing the stone blocks

Blocks taller than its own body: step by step, no run-up and no fall. By the manufacturer's table the As2 takes a 30 cm step and climbs onto a half-metre-to-metre ledge from standstill. Twelve motors at about 180 N·m carry the 42 kg body with margin, so the climb is not run at the limit.

Step by step, up to 30 cm

By the manufacturer's table it manages 30 cm steps and slopes around 45°. Twelve joint motors at about 180 N·m carry its roughly 42 kg body; thigh motion from −134° to 225° allows a stride that adapts to very uneven heights. For development there are four USB 3.0 Type-C ports, gigabit Ethernet, two RS485 buses and 12/24 V supplies for the user's own equipment.

The As2 walks across sharp rubble in a quarry

A scree with no path

Sharp, shifting rubble, the ground where continuous foothold sensing earns its keep. Industrial LiDARs front and rear cover the surroundings without a blind spot, and the HD camera with its front light lights the way in the dark. IP56 with an IP67 core means dust and spray are no obstacle to outdoor work.

25 kg of cargo, 3 hours of walking

With 25 kg it walks about 3 hours and some 12.5 km; unloaded more than 5 hours and 20 km. The dual battery (2 × 9000 mAh, 907 Wh total) hot-swaps: one stays in the robot while the other is changed, and the task keeps running. In ideal conditions the walking load reaches 35 kg, and standing the body bears about 100 kg.
