Unitree Go2

About this model

The Unitree Go2 is the compact quadruped for development, education and light duties. It measures 70 × 31 × 40 cm standing and 76 × 31 × 20 cm crouched, about 15 kg with battery; the body is aluminium alloy and engineering plastic. It runs on 28-33.6 V with about 3000 W peak power; the twelve knee motors give roughly 45 N·m.

It sells as Air, Pro and X: payload about 7-8 kg (max 10-12), speed from 0-2.5 m/s on the Air to 0-3.7 m/s (max ~5) on the X, steps 15-16 cm, slopes 30-40°. The standard 4D LiDAR L2 sweeps 360° × 96° and sees right down to the feet; up front a 1280 × 720, 120° camera and a lamp, with foot-force sensors in the legs.

The smart battery is 8000 mAh standard or 15000 mAh long-endurance, about 1-2 hours. Connectivity: WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, optional 4G. An 8-core computer takes an upgradeable AI module, Orin NX compatible. The films and photographs are the manufacturer's own.

Jumping the gaps

Spaced bridge planks: every hop lands on a narrow slat, never in the gap between. The 4D LiDAR sees the ground right at the feet and the foot-force sensors confirm every contact, so the robot is not jumping gaps blind. It is the same sensing that keeps it off a stair edge in everyday use.

Small, but the whole system

At about 15 kg it carries roughly 7-8 kg (max 10-12) and runs up to 3.7 m/s. The standard 4D LiDAR L2 sweeps 360° × 96°, seeing right down to its feet; a 120° camera and front lamp complete the view. The smart battery (8000 or 15000 mAh) gives about 1-2 hours, connecting over WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and optional 4G.

The backflip

A backflip on grass, a demonstration of joint power and mid-air attitude control. Knee motors of about 45 N·m send the 15 kg body through a full rotation and the controller lands it back on four feet. In daily use the same reserve means confident recoveries, hops and running up to 3.7 m/s on the top build.

For development and learning

An open platform on an 8-core computer with a documented SDK; the upgradeable AI module is compatible with several platforms, Orin NX included. The Air, Pro and X builds differ in speed, payload and compute, spanning the classroom to the research lab, which is why the Go2 is the common pick for education and research.

Wet river stones, low mass and a low centre of gravity hold the stride where a bigger machine would slip. At 15 kg the Go2 is a machine one person lifts over an obstacle and into a car boot, which also defines its use: it scouts ground you would not carry a bigger robot to.
